The Adventures of Hopscotch Cassidy begins with the Balladeer welcoming the audience to the very small town of Grumpy Gulch, which is holding a hopscotch tournament.  The Balladeer teaches the audience "The Ballad of Hopscotch Cassidy" and is overheard by Lemonade, the little-bit-sweet and little-bit-sour proprietor of the Grumpy Gulch Root Beer Saloon.  Sheriff Lawman enters to post a wanted poster for the notorious rustler "Rattlesnake Jones" and finally the much awaited Hopscotch Cassidy arrives in town.  As Hopscotch Cassidy prepares for victory with the help of the audience, everyone is on the lookout for "Rattlesnake Jones."  When the time for the hopscotch tournament arrives, Hopscotch is the only competitor until two volunteers are wrangled from the audience.  As the rules of the tournament are explained, "Rattlesnake Jones" arrives secretly and ruins the tournament for all by his rustlin' ways.  When it is revealed that he has been there all along in the form of the Balladeer, "Rattlesnake Jones" is apprehended and thrown in jail.  His capture prompts him to explain why he took to rustlin' in the first place--he was never allowed to play hopscotch as a child! His remorse leads the Sheriff to let "Rattlesnake Jones" go and finally, everyone gets to "hop their way from 1 to 10!"

Lessons include taking turns, following rules, and necessity of politeness.
